Science nutrients poster-Italy

Socio-cultural factor
Italy religion: mostly catholic
Catholic churches follow the Biblical practice of Jesus Christ and the Jews. Every Friday and during the season of lent, Catholics are not allowed to eat meat. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics are to abstain from all foods (fasting).
Because of this religion, Catholic Italians lack protein because of abstaining from meat. Also, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, they are to fast, which means they are to abstain from all foods, so on those days, they lack all food groups, starch, for example: rice, bread, cereal, pasta, corn, beans, potatoes, lentils, oatmeal, etc. They also lack proteins: lean meat (chicken, beef, fish, and turkey), eggs, tofu, etc. They lack the fruit group: apples, dragon fruit, avocado, pear, blueberries, kiwifruits, pomegranates, orange, strawberries, etc. The vegetable group: onion, garlic, lettuce, broccoli, carrots, greens, cabbage, Bok choi, etc. Last but not least, they lack fat: cheese, butter, cream, coconut milk, etc.

Economy factor
Italy’s import partners are Germany, France, China, Netherlands, Libya and Russia. Above all, Germany imports the most. Some of Germany’s main foods are:
Starch: bread in Germany is considered necessary for a healthy diet, there are many different kinds of bread in Germany, there are about 600 main types of breads, 1,200 different types of pastries. Rolls are produced in about 17,000 bakeries and another 10,000 in-shop bakeries. The most popular bread types in Germany are Rye-wheat, toast bread, whole-grain,  wheat-rye,  white bread, multi-grain, usually wheat-rye-oats with sesame or linseed, rye Sunflower seeds in dark rye bread Pumpkin seeds in dark rye bread and roasted onions in light wheat-rye bread. Pumpernickel is also a very well-known bread in Germany. Germans use almost all available types of grain for their breads: wheat, rye, barley, spelt, oats, millet, corn and rice. Some are even made with potato starch flour. Bread rolls are also very common, it is eaten with butter or margarine, Cheese, honey, jam, Nutella, meat, fish, or preserves are then placed between the two halves.
Proteins: Pork, beef, and poultry are the main varieties of meat in Germany, the most popular would be pork. Chicken is most common, although duck, goose, and turkey are also available in Germany. Game meats, especially boar, rabbit, and venison are also widely available all year round. Meat is usually pot-roasted. Most meats in Germany are made into sausages.
Vegetables: often used in stews or vegetable stew. Carrots, turnips, spinach, peas, beans, broccoli and many types of cabbage are very common. Fried onions and asparagus-especially white asparagus-are very common side dishes.
Fats: you can consider pretzels as fat, but it can also be starch or grains.

Environmental factor
Italy has few natural resources, much of the land is unsuited for farming, so Italy has to import lots of food from other countries. There is no iron, coal or oil. But there is natural gas and renewable energy. Italy is now one of the world's largest producers of renewable energy, world’s fifth largest solar energy producer in 2009 and the sixth largest producer of wind power in 2008.

Humanities poster-Judaism Passover

JUDAISM PASSOVER

General location where Passover takes place
Passover is one of the most important festivals in Jewish year. In Hebrew, it is called Pesach. It happens on the evening of the 15th day of Nisan-the 7th month of the year in Jewish calendar. The festival lasts for seven or eight days, depending on where you live in. It takes place at home with family and friends.

Historical purpose of Passover
The festival is called Passover because of this event: Moses went to see the pharaoh to ask him to release the Israelites, but every time he asks, the pharaoh would refuse. Moses then warned the pharaoh, that if he doesn’t release them, God will send ten terrible plagues on Egypt-blood, frogs, gnats, flies, blight of the livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the death of the first born. God told Moses that the Israelites should mark their door posts with lamb blood, so God would ‘pass-over’ houses and would spare them the terrible plagues. The Pharaoh soon gave in and released the Israelites. Moses and the Israelites was in such a rush that their bread did not have time to rise.
This is why Jewish people eat unleavened bread called Matzah during Passover.

Rituals that takes place during Passover
Families need to clean their houses to remove all leavened (or as it is also called chametz) crumbs to remember the Jews leaving Egypt who didn’t had time to wait for their bread to rise. Many children enjoy taking parting finding the crumbs that are left behind.
All the crumbs that are removed should be brushed into a disposable bag with a feather or a palm branch saying, "All leaven I have not seen or removed or that I don't know about is hereby null and void and ownerless as the dust of the earth." Then, after that, you have to burn the chametz or crumbs. If you do not burn it, you can also store them in a remote, sealed-off place in the house or either ‘sell’ them to a non-Jewish friend, and repurchase it after the Passover.
The first-born male of the family must fast on the day before Passover to commemorate the fact that the first-born males in Egypt were not killed during the final plague. You can go to work during Passover except on the first and last days. If you are a traditional Jew outside Israel, then you must not go to work on the first two and last two days. The days that you are allowed to work are called Chol Ha-Mo'ed.

Ways in which Jews celebrate Passover today
Passover lasts for seven days (eight days for traditional Jews outside of Israel). A meal called Seder with family and friends are to be observed on the first night of the Passover (for traditional Jews outside Israel, the Seder is observed on the first two nights).
The content of the Seder plate:
·                     A lamb bone
·                     A roasted egg
·                     A green vegetable to dip in salt water
·                     Bitter herbs made from horseradish
·                     Charoset (a paste of chopped apples, walnuts and wine)
There are three Matzot-unleavened bread-stacked together on the table. At the start of the Seder, the middle piece of Matzah is broken and the largest piece is hidden. During the Seder, the children hunt for it, the child who finds it will get a prize.
Four small glasses of wine are drunk to represent the four expressions of freedom which refer to the Israelites being brought out of slavery. Wine symbolises Joy and Happiness. An extra cup of wine is placed on the table and the door is left open for Elijah. Elijah is a prophet that the Jews believe will reappear to announce the coming of the Messiah during Pesach-Passover.
The story of how the Israelites fled from Egypt is retold from a book called the Haggadah during the evening.
To remind Jews that they are now free people and not slaves, everyone at the Seder will have a cushion to sit on.
Everyone at the Seder takes turns reading the Haggadah. Songs are sung and four questions will be asked by the youngest child in the family, the father will answer the questions.
Sometimes, if Pesach-Passover-takes place on a motzaei Shabbat, which is on a Saturday night after Shabbat has finished. If that happens, the fasting of the first-born males are to be observed on Thursday. The search for crumbs are to be also observed on Thursday instead of on the night before Pesach.

Music composition assessment-composition

Music composition assessment-process journal

Process Journal for composition music assessment

Today is our first lesson working on our composition assessment. Today, we were given handouts about how to do the assessment. We were given three choices for our composition bars 1-2. We have to use G Major and 4/4 time. We were given 3 choices of the first 2 bars. I didn’t like it so I decided to create my own.

~Oct 11
Today after school, I created the first 12 bars of my composition and tried out this and that in magic composer. I couldn’t seem to make anymore.

~Oct 13
Today, Mr. Parker came in our computer lab and listened to our lesson. I was sharing my composition to my classmates when he came forward and asked us to let him listen to our compositions. Mine was shorter compared to my other friends, but after Mr. Parker listened to all of our compositions, he just said, “That’s very good, girls, very good.” After a while, Audrey-my friend-told me she didn’t like her composition because track 1 doesn’t match track 2. Mrs. Yuen came and gave us tips on E minor. The tonic of E minor is l, d, and m. The subdominant is v, f and l. The dominant is m, si and t.

~Oct 19
Today, I suddenly thought of an idea to finish my composition, I was so into the work that I finished it! I sent to my friend and my friend sent her’s to me. We gave each other feedback and suggestions. I helped her to think of a title because she was struggling to think of one. She suggested me to use a long note at the end. Finally, I added percussion and a long note at the end.

Music composition assessment-presentation notes

My composition is in G major and 4/4 time. It is in ABACA form. I did not use the choices given. I created my own two bars melody to start the composition. My composition is called ‘Celebration' because of the cymbals, synth drum and the contrast between pianissimo and fortississimo. My composition’s tempo is moderate, which is in a moderate, steady speed. The expression marking that I used is Con Fuoco, which means with energy or passion, just like in a celebration. I used three different instruments, vibraphone for track 1-treble, synth drum for track 2-bass-and crash cymbals for track 3-percussion. I used ppp, pp for the first 8 bars-section A-p and mp in bars 9-16-section B-ppp in bars 25-31-section C-and used fff for the last note in the percussion track, leading back to section A. In section A, I continued to make it louder and louder until I reach fff and finish the composition with a long, loud fff note. I added 4 bars in the end and composed a rhythmic percussion track to end the composition. I used sequence, repetition and imitation. I also used an answering phase for section A and C.

Computer Technology-music video promoting good human qualities

The task is to make a music video promoting good human characteristics. There are lots of good human characteristics, for example, friendship, love, caring, risk-taking, well-balanced, nice, kind, sharing, and all the learner profiles. This task is to promote the goodness in people and to show the evil, bad people, how good people should be. Many leaders in this world have good human characteristics, like presidents, governments, policemen, firefighters, etc. All of them have good and wonderful human characteristics. Presidents and governments, they care about the citizens, about their problems, their death and birth. Policemen and firefighters also care about the citizens, except in a different way, they care about their safety and danger.
The guiding question for this unit is ‘How can we share the positive and encouraging message or to promote great human qualities?’ This guiding question means (to me) what ways we can tell the world to be better, to tell people that they should be a better person. This is quite hard actually, to answer this question, first of all, in order to promote good human qualities, we must know what is good and what is bad, good would be the IB leaner profile, to be an all-rounded person, we must at least have half of the qualities in the leaner profile. The linkage between our task and the guiding question would be that in order to do the task, we must ask ourselves the guiding question, because our task is the guiding question! Our world is never fair, there’s never shouting “It’s not fair!” when someone picked your pocket. There’s no crying “That’s so unfair” when someone tried to murder you. Because nothing in the world is ever fair. Even if we had a hypnotizing music video, that whenever someone watched it, they turn into amazingly good people, not even when everyone in the world became good and hypnotize, because that is not fair to them, right? The music video controlled them, forced them to obey, to be a better citizen, but they may not want to be controlled, but they have no choice, because they were controlled. Does that seem fair to you? So we can’t do anything to make the world a fair, perfect and good place, but we can persuade and influence the world to be perfect, to be fair, and to be a good place.
